Description:
Because the S55 engine is prone to oil cooling issues, we recommend installing the MSL Oil Thermostat. With normal driving, the standard oil thermostat will reach roughly 120 degrees Celsius. The MSL Oil Thermostat opens at a lower temperature than the usual oil thermostat (at 85 degrees Celsius) and maintains a constant temperature between 95 and 105 degrees Celsius, depending on the vehicle model. Installing the MSL thermostat provides cooler oil temperature, which results in more stable performance, but most importantly, it increases engine reliability. It is suggested that the thermostat be installed, especially in tuned vehicles.
The Thermostat is plug-and-play and produced in-house from a solid block of high-grade aluminum. It has a true thermostat rather than an always-on solution. The oil will reach working temperature at the same rate as a standard thermostat.
Note: The Oil Thermostat Installation Kit, which is strongly recommended when installing the MSL Oil Thermostat, protects the Oil Thermostat from leaking. The package includes two oil hose O-rings and one rubber oil filter housing gasket. We recommend that you include it in your order.
