The total and complete redesign of the 911 engine was fitted with the vintage plastic ""T"" style air distributor that Porsche has used since the early 911 days. This intake system was found on virtually all 911 Carrera's until the arrival of the DFI cars in 2009.

The unique, innovative and patented design of the IPD Plenum employs a ""Y"" design that improves performance by channeling air left and right to the cylinder banks more efficiently. This design reduces air flow turbulence and increases air flow velocity resulting in substantial power gains throughout the entire rpm band.

The IPD plenum not only delivers impressive power and torque increases but also creates a more linear power and torque band. Tiptronic customers even claim considerable improvements with more positive shifting after installing the IPD Plenums.

 

All of the IPD Plenums deliver substantial power and torque gains, but when combined with larger throttle bodies they perform even better. All of the IPD ""Competition"" Plenums utilize the next largest size throttle body offered by Porsche. In this case, the Competition Carrera upgrades the factory OE 74mm throttle body with Porsche's 82mm 997 GT3 throttle body. All of our Competition Plenums are designed to perform with cars equipped with high performance exhaust systems. The more extensive the exhaust system (headers, kats and mufflers) the better. Optimizing air intake and exhaust together creates a balanced performance package that allows the engine to inhale and exhale more air thus creating more power and torque.

Power improvements will be fully realized once the factory ECU/DME makes all the necessary ""adaptation"" requirements. This process can be expedited with a series of ""hard pulls"" or spirited full throttle acceleration runs through the gears. Of course this should only be performed on a closed course circuit.

Installation

• Professional installation is recommended, however a mechanically inclined Porsche owner will be able to install this IPD Plenum themselves. Installation is pretty straight forward, the IPD Plenum connects directly to your stock throttle body.
