The OEM factory exhaust has 2 catalytic converters, 2 large mufflers, and a lot of restrictive bends which causes losses in pressure and power on your Mk. 7 Golf Sportwagen 1.8T. The AWE Tuning Catback Exhaust for the Mk. 7 Golf Sportwagen 1.8T eliminates many of these restrictions resulting in a dyno-proven 7 hp and 7 lb/ft torque gain to the wheels when combined with the AWE Tuning Downpipe. AWE Tuning spent extensive time to research and design their exhaust to obtain maximum power gains for the Mk. 7 Golf Sportwagen 1.8T. To create a full turboback exhaust, add the AWE Tuning Downpipe. With the AWE Tuning Catback Exhaust, you have the option to choose from the Touring or Track Edition Catback Exhaust depending on how aggressive you want your Mk. 7 Golf Sportwagen 1.8T to sound. The Touring Edition includes a specially engineered Helmholtz resonator in the rear muffler section, while the Track Edition does not include the Helmholtz resonator. Why did AWE choose 2.5 inch and not 3.0 inch diameter for their Mk. 7 exhaust?

AWE's first 2.0T exhaust prototypes were indeed 3.0 inch, but we found that the effort it took to move the large mass of air in the 3.0 inch system at lower rpms resulted in a loss of torque with very little offsetting gain up top.
